Nonprofit CRM Provides Fundraising Success for Senior Living Facility

Safe, knowledgeable and loving care is what so many look for when it comes to finding a facility for aging friends and family members. Kenyon Senior Living strives to provide high-quality services and a knowledgeable, caring staff to residents and patients, both long- and short-term, through skilled nursing, rehabilitation therapy services, assisted living and respite.

The Visions & Services
Kenyon Senior Living is a nonprofit senior care organization located in the small Minnesota town of Kenyon. Sunset Home, Kenyon’s senior care skilled nursing facility, was originally established in 1949 as lodging for senior citizens, but has since expanded. While Sunset Home still serves as the skilled nursing facility, Kenyon Senior Living now includes Gunderson Gardens, the assisted living units and Gunderson Suites, the memory care assisted living.

Kenyon Senior Living provides long-term care and rehabilitation services to residents, as well as daily activities, chaplain services and other amenities to the surrounding communities.

They are also working to become the destination for short-term rehabilitation services for people living in the surrounding counties, providing physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and home evaluations. Sunset Home also serves as a short-term facility for residents admitted after an illness or hospitalization, but who return home after recuperation and therapy services.

Making Donor Management Digital
To support the offering of top-notch patient care and community services, Kenyon Senior Living has relied on the support of a generous group of donors-- so much so that the need for constituent relationship management (CRM) software became apparent at a point in their recent past. Before choosing a CRM, Administrator and Director of Development Chelsea Ugland and her team were managing donor activity by hand, a time-consuming and tedious way of keeping track of donor relationships.

It was time for the administration team to start researching donor management software in order to improve their constituent record-keeping.

Ugland and her team heavily researched CRM software online. As a nonprofit organization, the software they chose needed to be easy to use, as well as one that wouldn’t break the budget.

"When looking for a CRM, we needed to find something that was user friendly, as well as affordable for our organization," Ugland said.

Ugland came across ResultsPlus from Metafile, and the donor management software seemed to fit their needs perfectly.

"The product looked great and easy to use, and the pricing was in our range," Ugland said. "We also like that the company is based out of Rochester, Minn., which is relatively close to our organization."

Reaping the Benefits of a CRM
It didn’t take long for Kenyon Senior Living staff to settle on ResultsPlus CRM to help them more effectively manage donor activity. The ResultsPlus team from Metafile jumped into action to implement and help them get the most out of their new CRM.

"Everyone on the ResultsPlus team has been great to work with and willing to walk us through the steps to get reports completed or queries started," Ugland said.

The ResultsPlus training programs have also been beneficial to the staff. Because training is so readily available, when Kenyon Senior Living’s new director of development started, she was able to take a ResultsPlus training course and jump right into working with the software.

Staff at Kenyon Senior Living have found many of the ResultsPlus functions extremely helpful. From their fundraising campaigns to running reports, they now have an inside, in-depth look at their donors and funds.

"When we began with ResultsPlus, we were just starting a large capital campaign," Ugland said. "This campaign is now finished, but during the entire process we relied heavily on ResultsPlus for tracking donations coming in."

The ResultsPlus customizable dashboards have allowed the team to keep track of specific funds and appeals, giving them complete visibility of the progress of their efforts. And while these dashboards have been extremely helpful for helping Kenyon Senior Living reach their goals, it has been the ability to create queries that Ugland has found to be most helpful.

"They sound confusing, but have been a blessing when sending out mailings to specific constituent groups," she said.  Being able to easily, quickly and accurately pull data from the CRM has helped them manage their relations with donors and analyze specific donor groups.

Having a CRM to store donor information, manage relations and track donations has made the operations of Kenyon Senior Living run more productively and given the staff a better view of their donor data.

As a nonprofit organization, having affordable, user-friendly donor management software is essential. For Kenyon Senior Living, these aspects of ResultsPlus have helped save them time and have made everyday tasks more efficient.

"This product has saved time for both our Director of Development and Chief Financial Officer, which in turn has made things much more efficient," Ugland said.
